Manga Review: The Ancient Magus’ Bride Vol 1 (魔法使いの嫁 / The Ancient Magus’ Bride #1) by Kore Yamazaki

Hatori Chise has thus far lived a life of abuse and neglect. When she decides to end her life, she is offered a chance to be of use to someone else. She is sold as a slave. A man named magus “buys” Chise but their relationship is far from a slave and master when he decides to free Chise and make her his apprentice.

This is an on-going series, which is extremely annoying to me because I am in love with this series.

Firstly, it isn’t exactly what I expected. Magus isn’t a hard ass by any means. He is actually extremely sweet, caring and almost loving to Chise. My issue with this is he treats her so fragile and yes, she does have some “surprising issues” but that whole constantly “you may break” mentality is rather annoying.

I don’t have a total opinion of Chise. I don’t because her life was pretty jacked up and I am going to make the assumption that because of her experiences she hasn’t developed a real personality. She gets a bit better in the other volumes but she still has a lot of work to do.

I guess you can also say there is a romance between Chise and Magus. It is still really early in the series to say what they will experience is love. But it makes the story extremely interesting.

Art work is typical; nothing too special there. So I am not going to discuss. The pace of the novel was great and as I stated before I am upset that I have to wait to continue this series. You really get sucked into it. So much I am claiming this as my new favorite manga.

Book Review: Angel Para Bellum Vol 1 by Nozomu Tamaki

This manga is from the creator of “Dance in the Vampire Bund” which was an amazing series that I recommend to anyone who loves manga, action, romance and of course vampires. You can find it here on goodreads.

Before the review or even reading this series there is a key fact that people should know. Para Bellum means (along the lines of) If you want peace, prepare for war. Beautiful quote. Anyways . . .

This manga, Angel Para Bellum, is about a little boy named Mitsuru who looks like a little girl. Mitsuru is the key to preventing an all out war between heaven and hell and because of that demons are after him and he has two angels as his personal bodyguards.

The artwork for this manga was great; bright and detailed. There is really not much to question regarding the artwork. The story line however, was a bit weak. I was interested enough to keep reading and even read the second volume but the action almost immediately starts, which normally I don’t have a problem with, but it really doesn’t leave much to the imagination. It’s a hard balance that not many authors can pull off.

This is not to say that the story didn’t pick up in the second volume.  It did but I’m expecting better the third volume because there is a lot of predictability.

Overall this volume gets a 7 out of 10. I am expecting great things to happen by the third volume. If you can’t wait that long then this series isn’t for you.
