Who: Walter Dean Myers Young Adult Author

What: Writer’s Spotlight

Mini Bio: Myers was born August 12, 1937; joined the army when he was seventeen and after four years of service went to Empire State College and received his B.A. He has published over 70 children and young adult books.

Why:  Myers has been writing books since 1969 and is well known for his book Monster, which won the Michael Printz Award. Although he has won numerous awards, Myers is still a underrated author (I strongly believe) and he should be a house hold name not because he is African American but because his books have a rawness that not everyone gets to experience.

Favorite Book: Street Love
